Rabat – The Moroccan government has rolled out a large-scale, targeted assistance program to support communities affected by recent flooding in the northern and western regions of the Kingdom. Triggered by unusually heavy rainfall over the past two months, the floods have caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, and agricultural land. In response, authorities have mobilized all relevant departments to ensure that relief measures are implemented swiftly and effectively.
The program prioritizes direct financial aid, rehabilitation efforts, and recovery of the agricultural sector. Affected families will receive emergency assistance of up to MAD 6,000, with distribution scheduled to begin next week. To access the support, heads of households must send a text message to 1212, including their national electronic ID card number and date of birth. This system enables authorities to verify eligibility and accelerate the disbursement process.
Beyond emergency aid, the government has allocated MAD 15,000 for the rehabilitation of damaged homes and small businesses. Families whose houses were completely destroyed by the floods will be eligible for reconstruction assistance of up to MAD 140,000.
A special commission will conduct field assessments in disaster-hit areas to evaluate the extent of the damage and ensure transparent distribution of resources. Affected residents may also submit applications directly to the commission for review in accordance with existing regulations.
The agricultural sector, which has been severely impacted, is receiving dedicated support under the program. A spring planting initiative has been launched to help farmers recover more rapidly. The initiative focuses on oil crops, cereals, and livestock feed, with subsidized seeds and fertilizers provided to accelerate replanting efforts. Livestock breeders will continue to receive assistance aimed at stabilizing production and safeguarding livelihoods.
In addition to financial and agricultural measures, the program emphasizes safe evacuation and relocation of residents from high-risk areas. Logistical resources have been deployed to ensure evacuations are carried out under optimal conditions.
Once conditions stabilize, displaced families will be supported in returning to their homes as quickly as possible. This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to minimizing disruption while protecting communities from further risks.
The relief initiative reflects a comprehensive recovery strategy that combines immediate assistance with long-term rehabilitation. By coordinating efforts across housing, business, agriculture, and logistics sectors, the government aims to restore stability and resilience in affected regions. The program reaffirms Morocco’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens and enabling communities to rebuild with dignity and security.
Through this initiative, Morocco is not only addressing the current disaster but also strengthening its preparedness for future challenges. The integration of financial support, agricultural recovery, and logistical planning demonstrates a holistic approach to disaster management—one focused on protecting lives, rebuilding livelihoods, and reinforcing social cohesion in the aftermath of hardship.
