The system is being tested at the University of Nottingham’s Sutton Bonington Campus, where researchers are exploring how autonomous robots could help growers detect problems earlier and reduce crop losses.
The robot can move through greenhouse environments while collecting information about plants. Its cameras and sensors allow researchers to examine crops for changes that may indicate disease, pest damage or abnormal growth.
Early detection is particularly important in controlled growing environments. A problem affecting a small number of plants can spread rapidly if it is not identified and treated, potentially damaging an entire crop.
